Visakha Vidyalaya is a leading girls school in Sri Lanka for not only producing brilliant academic results but also hard-working sportswomen on the field. On the 3rd of January under the auspices of the Principal of Visakha Vidyalaya Mrs. Sandamali Aviruppola the 2020 Visakha Inter-House Athletics meet was conducted at the St. Peter’s College Grounds, Colombo 04. The ambitious Visakhians bought out their chivalrous and unchallenged spirit onto the field for their annual Sports meet.
Major General Kamal Gunaratne WWV, RWP, RSP, USP, ndc, psc, GR Secretary to the Ministry of Defense and former Commander of Security Forces Headquarters graced the event as the chief guest while past pupil and former national badminton player Miss.Achini Ratnasiri joined as the guest of honor. Both were welcomed by the Principal and her staff. The event was also graced by former Principals, Teachers and Past Pupils of Visakha Vidyalaya.
It was indeed a spectacular event with a highly decorative and synchronized rhythmic drill display and competitive athletes fighting evenly for the Championship shield! However, after a well-fought battle, Dawes house emerged victorious claiming the shield with 426 points while Pulimood House won the 2nd place and Weerasuriya house won the 3rd place with 402 points and 385 points respectively. Jayathileke House ended at 4th place with 304.5 points, Motwani House at 5th place with 294.5 points and Diaz House at 6th place with 281 points.
