Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo 04 won the Girls’ Finals and secured the Rtn. PP Harold Peiris Memorial Challenge Trophy presented by the Rotary Club of Colombo North at the 50th All Island Inter School Shakespeare Drama Competition. This is the fourth Championship won by Visakha Vidyalaya since the competition began in 1973, where Visakhians ended up as the Runner-Up (to S.Thomas’ College) when there was no distinction between Boys’ & Girls’ competitions (till 1976). Visakha won their maiden title in 2013 and followed it up in 2016 and winning it last in 2021, and finished as runner-up in 2024 (to St. Bridget’s Convent).

The 50th All-Island Inter-School Shakespeare Drama Competition was organized by the Rotary Club of Colombo North with Colombo YMCA, which has been instrumental in running this premier schools’ drama competition in Sri Lanka since 1973. The Girls’ Finals were held on 26th September 2025, at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, competed by Bishop’s College, Colombo, Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, Ave Maria Convent, Negombo and Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo 4.

 

Bishop’s College was placed first Runner-up, while Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya secured the 2nd Runner-up.

Mr. Orlando Edwards, Country Director of British Council Sri Lanka, graced the event as Chief Guest.

 

Rest of the winners;

 

First Runners-up at the Girls’ Finals – Bishop’s College. Winner of the Rotary Club of Colombo North Challenge Shield presented by Mr. & Mrs. Dulip Jayamaha.

 

Second Runners-up at the Girls’ Finals – Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya. Winner of the Rotary Club of Colombo North Challenge Shield presented by Mr. & Mrs. Asoka Pieris.

 

Best Actress at the Girls’ Finals – Manekha Gomez from Visakha Vidyalaya. Winner of the Winifred Jayamaha Memorial Challenge Cup presented by the family members of the late Mrs. Jayamaha.

Best Portrayal – Pabasara Peiris from Visakha Vidyalaya was awarded the Best Portrayal in a Villain Role at the Girls’ Finals of the 50th Shakespeare Drama Competition 2025

Best Novices at the Girls’ Finals – Our Lady of Victories Convent, Moratuwa. Winner of the Colombo YMCA Challenge Shield presented by Mr. Anton Rufus Vethanayagam.

 

Best Cameo – Lawanya Wickramasekara of St. Nicholas’ International School was awarded with the Best Cameo Performance at the Girls’ Finals of the 50th Shakespeare Drama Competition 2025
