Saints are gathering for the 56th Saints Quadrangular in Colombo

The 56th Annual Saints’ Quadrangular Tournament will be held on 08th & 09th November in Colombo (at Darley Road and Bambalapitiya) organised by Saints Quadrangular Association and hosted by Old Josephians Sports Club. The traditional two-day tournament will see the gathering of former sports stars from four leading Catholic schools: St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota, St. Benedict’s College, St. Joseph’s College and St. Peter’s College set to compete against each other in Cricket, Basketball and Rugby. They will be joined by past pupils from their sister schools: Good Shepherd Convent Kandy, Good Shepherd Convent Kotahena, St. Bridget’s Convent and Holy Family Convent, as the ladies will compete in a softball cricket tournament on the final day (09th) Sunday at Darley Road Grounds.

The main tournament will be the two T20 cricket tournaments, which will be held at St. Joseph’s College Grounds (Darley Road) and St. Peter’s College Grounds (Bambalapitiya), while two basketball tourneys for under-40 and over-40 age categories will be played at Royal College Sports Complex. There will be an Over-20 rugby sevens tourney, which will be played on the first day at Bambalapitiya, completing the activities of the Saints’ Quadrangular.

Winners of the two cricket tournaments will walk away with the Quadrangular Trophy, while the basketball winners are set to receive the Very Rev. Fr. Joe E. Wickramasinghe Trophy. The overall winners of the Saints’ Quadrangular Tournament grab the coveted Ranjith Samarasekara Challenge Trophy. Over 20 trophies will be on offer in cricket, basketball and rugby at this year’s Saints Quadrangular besides the main silverware. Since 2017, when the Overall Championship was introduced, St. Anthony’s College has won the title once, while St. Peter’s has won it on three occasions. This year’s hosts, St. Joseph’s, are the defending champions. The 56th Saints Quadrangular Tournament is sponsored by LOLC, Hemas Hospitals, Fox FM and Prima Kottumee.

A press conference was held on the 28th of October at Old Joe’s Sports Club premises to announce arrangements for the much-looked-forward-to tournament, which will be hosted by the Old Joes Sports Club under the able leadership of Prithieraj de Silva, who is also the President of the Saints Quadrangular Association (2025/2026) and Viranga Malawana heading the organising committee.

The longest-running Old Boys Sports Tournament (since 1963) is now being played around the world annually in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar will be played in the highest spirit, strengthening the camaraderie within the Quadrangular fraternity and bringing back great nostalgia.
